Key Information Of The Vanderbilt National Merit Scholarship

Scholarship Amount Up to $6,000 per year (for finalists who do not receive an additional merit scholarship from Vanderbilt).
$8,000 per year (for finalists who also receive one of Vanderbilt’s merit-based scholarships).
Eligibility National Merit Finalists.
Students must be admitted to Vanderbilt. Designate Vanderbilt as their first-choice school with the National Merit Corporation by the final deadline.
Students must enroll as entering freshman students.
Awarding Process Automatic for finalists who do not receive an additional merit scholarship from Vanderbilt.
Other finalists will be considered for the additional $2,000 in National Merit total scholarship dollars per year.
Application Deadline None (automatic consideration for finalists).
Renewal Renewable for four years of undergraduate study.
Students must maintain satisfactory academic performance.

Scholarship Overview 

Vanderbilt University provides National Merit Finalists with scholarship assistance. 

To qualify, students must designate Vanderbilt as their first choice and enroll as freshmen. 

Vanderbilt guarantees a total of $2,000 per year in additional National Merit aid to finalists who also receive Vanderbilt merit scholarships. 

Finalists not receiving a Vanderbilt scholarship are awarded up to $6,000 per year or up to $5,000 for classes before Fall 2023. 

Merit scholarships starting from $8,000 per year are also available.

Eligibility

  • Be a high school student planning to enroll in college full-time.
  • Attend high school in the US or meet citizenship requirements for overseas students.
  • Take the PSAT/NMSQT in your junior year and meet a certain score.
  • Have a strong academic record school endorsement and apply.
  • Complete an essay and take the SAT or ACT to confirm your PSAT/NMSQT performance.

Types of Scholarships

  • National Merit $2500 Scholarships for Finalists without sponsored scholarships.
  • Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards by corporations or organizations.
  • College-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards by colleges and universities.
  • Special Scholarships for outstanding students meeting specific criteria.

Application Process

  • Take the PSAT/NMSQT in junior year.
  • Receive PSAT/NMSQT score and Semifinalist notification in senior year.
  • Complete the scholarship application by November 1st if you are a Semifinalist.
  • Receive Finalist notification in February of the final year.
  • Submit the Finalist application by March 1st if a Finalist.
