International students who got admitted to Northern Illinois University (INU) can take advantage of international student scholarships.
The scholarship will assist them in reducing their financial burden and save them from making the difficult decision of taking student loans.
When financial barriers aren’t considered, students can focus on their studies and improve their overall academic performance by achieving higher GPAs.
However, students need to meet some criteria before they will be considered as either valid or invalid applicants.
Reading the rules and regulations of the program will help students to understand how they are going to face the application process.
Remember, those who fail to abide by the rules of the program will not be considered.

Scholarship Overview
Northern Illinois University offers two types of scholarships for admitted international undergraduate students – merit-based and housing scholarships.
Students are automatically considered for these as long as scholarships are still available.
The Merit Scholarship is worth $5,000 to $9,000 per year. However, only students with a 3.5+ GPA will be considered.
Secondly, the housing scholarship also provides $3,600 per year for students with a 2.75+ GPA to live in a specific residence hall.
Both the merit and the housing scholarship are renewable.
International students pay nonresident tuition plus additional fees like activities, athletics, health insurance, etc. NIU sends monthly billing statements that can be viewed online.
